What is Oilcloth?

Oilcloth is the type of fabric I use to make the exterior of my creations.

It is a coated cotton fabric. Historically the cotton was coated with linseed oil but modern methods use PVC, making it strong, durable and wipeable.

There are PVC fabrics available that are coated but they don't have a base of cotton, they're 100% plastic.

I don't use this type of fabric as it has a high risk of tearing and can fade over time.

Oilcloth is available with a glossy or matt finish. A gloss finish is more traditional and the coating makes the colours and print really pop!

Matt finish Oilcloth has more of the original cotton appearance and is becoming increasingly popular.

Here are just some examples of the Oilcloths I have used
